NAMI Peer-to-Peer
Living with a mental health condition can involve learning new ways to understand yourself, manage challenges, build on your strengths, and move toward the life you want.
NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free, eight-session education program for adults living with mental health conditions who want to better understand themselves and their recovery. The course is led by trained NAMI leaders who have their own lived experience with mental health conditions.
NAMI Fairbanks does not currently offer Peer-to-Peer locally. However, we can take your contact information and help connect you with online classes as they become available.
What You Will Learn
Peer-to-Peer combines information, discussion, activities, and practical tools in a supportive learning environment.
The course can help participants:
- Set goals and develop a vision for the future
- Build confidence in making decisions about their recovery
- Strengthen communication and relationships
- Learn strategies for managing stress
- Work more effectively with health care providers
- Learn about mental health treatment options
- Share experiences and learn from others with lived experience
- Build skills that support wellness and recovery
Peer-to-Peer is designed as an educational program rather than therapy or treatment, and it does not recommend specific treatment approaches.
Who Is Peer-to-Peer For?
NAMI Peer-to-Peer is for adults living with mental health conditions who are interested in learning more about mental health, wellness, and recovery.
The program offers an opportunity to learn alongside others who can relate through their own lived experience. A formal diagnosis is not required to participate.
There is no cost for the course.

Learning Alongside People Who Understand
One of the strengths of Peer-to-Peer is that the program is taught by people who bring their own experience of mental health and recovery to the classroom.
Participants can gain practical information and new skills while learning in an environment grounded in respect, understanding, and the knowledge that recovery can look different for each person.
