NAMI Family-to-Family
When someone you care about is living with a mental health condition, it can be difficult to know what to expect, how to help, or where to turn for reliable information.
NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, evidence-based education program for family members, caregivers, and loved ones of adults living with mental health conditions. The course provides practical information, useful tools, and the opportunity to learn alongside others who understand the experience of supporting someone they care about.
The program is taught by trained NAMI volunteers who have personal experience supporting a family member with a mental health condition.
What You Will Learn
Family-to-Family covers topics designed to help participants better understand mental health conditions and strengthen their ability to support both their loved one and themselves.
Topics include:
- Understanding mental health conditions and their effects
- Current information about treatments and medications
- Communication and problem-solving strategies
- Preparing for and responding to crises
- Navigating mental health care and community resources
- Setting boundaries and caring for your own well-being
- Advocacy and ways to support recovery
The course also gives participants time to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from others in a respectful and supportive setting.
Who Is Family-to-Family For?
NAMI Family-to-Family is designed for adults who have a family member, partner, or other loved one living with a mental health condition.
You do not need to be a NAMI member to participate, and there is no cost for the course.
Because Family-to-Family is a multi-session class, participants are encouraged to attend the full course so they can build on what they learn each week.

Information, Skills, and Support for Families
Family-to-Family gives families more than information about mental health conditions. It provides practical tools for navigating challenges, communicating more effectively, and supporting recovery while also recognizing the importance of their own well-being.
Participants leave with greater knowledge, new strategies, and connections with others who understand the experience.
